A sinkhole in Florida gave
resort-goers a scare as it swallowed up their building over the weekend.
Late Sunday night guests at a central Florida
resort woke up to frightening sounds, the result of a sinkhole.
The three story villa at the Summer Bay
Resort, just west of Disney World was collapsing as the sinkhole began to
swallow up the building.
First the lights went out and then the
building started shaking. Moments later
a massive crack appeared in the villa's foundation, about 40 to 50 feet wide.
Nobody was hurt and the resort staff
was able to evacuate all the guests before the building collapsed.
"The most important thing is that all
of our guests considering the magnitude of this sinkhole are ok," said Juan Barillas,
V.P. of the Summer Bay Resort.
The villa has 24 units and about 20
people were staying there at the time of the collapse.
A nearby complex was also evacuated
just to be safe.
