Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol will be out in extra numbers during a special "You Drink, You Drive, You Lose" enforcement campaign.
Troopers and communications specialists will be putting in overtime hours beginning Friday, August 16 through Labor Day, September 2 and cracking down on impaired drivers.
"As the summer travel season
winds down, many of us are making plans for that last big trip," said Colonel
David Sankey, superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. "You can expect to
see extra troopers out on the road during the special enforcement, as they work
to help motorists reach their destination safely."
Officials are reminding drivers that extra attention is required while driving due to the increase in traffic during the summer months and the road construction zones.
Everyone is asked to report impaired or reckless drivers by dialing *55 from any cell phone or 1.800.525.5555 from any landline when it is safe to do so. Emergencies should still be reported by dialing 911.
This special enforcement effort is funded in part by a nearly $28,000 grant from the Nebraska
Office of Highway Safety.
