Class is back in session Thursday for Kearney Public Schools and school officials are pleased with the way two newer elementary schools are serving the community.
Kenwood and Buffalo Hills elementary schools were recently added to the district to prevent overcrowding. Kenwood is going into its third year, while Buffalo Hills will be in its second.
KPS Superintendent Brian Maher says the schools have proven themselves effective.
"I think they are serving the community really well and I'm certain they are serving the school district really well, because again they helped us drive down the enrollment that we had, and the student–teacher ratio is far superior to what it was just a few years ago, " Maher said.
Maher adds no classroom has more than 25 students in it.
