NebraskaLand Days, City of Fullerton are Among Groups to Receive Tourism Grant

Posted: Updated:

The Nebraska Tourism Commission says four promotional groups have been awarded $109,500 in Community Impact grants to continue their work of securing national caliber events.

"We are pleased to provide this opportunity to Nebraska communities in assisting them to compete for events that bring national attention and visitors to Nebraska," Tourism Commission Director Kathy McKillip said.

McKillip added that this opportunity to increase national exposure would not be possible without the Legislature appropriating $250,000 towards the commission's Community Impact Grant program.

The commission says 15 proposals were submitted, asking more than $300,000 in funds. Officials say the selected organizations were chosen because of their focus on gaining national exposure for Nebraska.

NEBRASKAland Days in North Platte was selected to receive $20,000 for the Great American Wild West Show featuring the original historic Buffalo Bill performance format.

The city of Fullerton will get $15,000 for its Communities of Distinction National Broadcasting Television Project.

Additionally, two organizations in Omaha were chosen to receive grant funds.

The Omaha Sports Commission will receive $50,000 for the NORCECA Continental Volleyball Championships, featuring eight international teams. The Omaha Equestrian Foundation is receiving $24,500 for recruiting and promotion of Olympic caliber competition and riding events.
