Scotia Woman Dies After Car Strikes Semi

Posted: Updated:

ST. EDWARD, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a 42-year-old Scotia woman died after her car rammed into a semitrailer in east-central Nebraska.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office says the accident occurred about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, about six miles west of St. Edward. The office says Jennifer Markvicka was driving east on Nebraska Highway 56 and didn't halt at the stop sign controlling the intersection with Nebraska Highway 14. Her car hit the side of the southbound big rig.

She and the truck driver Billy Russell, of Omaha, were taken to Boone County Health Center. Authorities say Markvicka died of her injuries. Russell's injuries weren't believed to be life-threatening.
