A crash near Grand Island Monday afternoon has resulted in one fatality.
Multiple vehicles were involved in a crash on Highway 281 just north of the Interstate 80 near Grand Island.
The accident occurred just after 2 p.m. a half-mile north of Guenther Road.
The Hall County Sheriff says a southbound vehicle, driven by 30-year-old Lincoln man Hermino Alamilla, lost control and entered the median. The 1996 blue Cadillac rolled several times and came to rest in the driving lane for northbound traffic.
The Cadillac was struck by a northbound 2008 gray Silverado pickup, driven by 26-year-old Megan Brodrick of Grand Island. She was not carrying any passengers and required no medical attention.
There were two other passengers in the Cadillac at the time of the accident. One of the passengers was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. The 29-year-old Grand Island man was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The other passenger was identified as Jose Coronado, a 23-year-old Grand Island man. He required no medical attention. Alamilla, the driver, was transported to St. Francis with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the accident. Alamilla will be charged with driving under the influence and felony motor vehicular homicide.
At least one ambulance responded to the scene along with both the city and rural fire departments from Grand Island.
Traffic had to be diverted as officers investigated.
More details including the name of the deceased will be released tomorrow.
