A secret weapon no more, the army of volunteers that the Nebraska State Fair has used are a big part of the fair's success.
Last year, 880 volunteers contributed more than 12,000 hours of service.
But this year they're behind that pace, and need more help.
Many keep coming back year after year.
That includes Billie Herron. She said, "I love it. It's the best way to enjoy the fair. You get to sit here and say hi to all the people. If you were just here at the fair, you wouldn't turn around, and even notice. When you volunteer, you say 'hi, how's it going.'"
Those volunteers have begun getting things set, putting items on display, and helping as needed.
But more are needed. Those interested are encouraged to call the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce at 308-382-9210.
