GI City Council to Delay Vote on Legal Fund for Vets Home

Posted: Updated:

The Grand Island City Council has decided to postpone voting on a possible contribution towards a legal fund aimed at keeping the veterans home in Grand Island.

Mayor Jay Vavricek says he wants the council to discuss the matter further at Tuesday's meeting as some of the details have changed, pushing the vote until next week.

The Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce initially asked Hall County and the city of Grand Island to contribute $10,000 each, with an additional $5,000 each to come from the chamber and the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corp.

The amount be requested from the city council has changed to $5,000 due to changes in the law firm that was proposed to provide counsel on options in keeping the veterans home in Grand Island instead of the approved new location in Kearney.

Hall County board members already voted last week in favor of contributing $10,000 to the so-called "war chest".
