Getting kids engaged and excited to be in class can be difficult for many teachers, but at Southern Valley Public Schools, teachers and staff are thinking outside of the box to get their students interested.
Walk into a classroom at Southern Valley Elementary and you'll see painted classrooms with various themes to stimulate young minds.
It's just one of the techniques of the Ron Clark Method and Southern Valley is taking it seriously.
"Raising the expectations of the kids starting at a young age can be as simple as eye contact. If you're looking at somebody there's a better chance that you're listening. And it's also respect and even something as simple as teaching a hand shake," says Superintendent Chuck Lambert.
Thanks to a grant program all Southern Valley Elementary teachers have now traveled to Atlanta, Ga. on a trip to observe the Ron Clark Academy, in hopes of instilling passion for learning and success for their students, and thus attain better test scores.
