NORTH PLATTE, Neb.
(AP) — A 42-year-old Sutherland man is accused of trying to hand a
loaded shotgun to his daughter and telling her to kill herself.
Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says Shane Halcott argued with his
teenage daughter after she returned home from a dance Saturday night.
The girl told her father about a boy she'd met, but he berated her,
telling her she couldn't date.
The sheriff's office says the girl
soon told her dad she wanted to hurt herself. The girl and a witness
told deputies that Halcott got a shotgun, loaded it and tried to give it
to her, telling her to kill herself.
Deputies say Halcott later didn't deny the girl's account.
Halcott remained in custody on Tuesday. Online court records don't list the name of his attorney.
