The Grand Island City Council has approved a $5,000 contribution towards a legal fund aimed at keeping the veterans home in the city.
Council members voted 9-0 vote Tuesday night to approve the funds.
The money from the city council will join $5,000 pledged by Hall County and $2,500 promised by both the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation and the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce.
The $15,000 total will be used to determine the city's options in challenging the state's decision to build a replacement home in Kearney.
Gov. Dave Heineman announced the planned move in July after the review of four proposals from central Nebraska communities, including Grand Island.
The current veterans home has been located in Grand Island since 1888.
