A semi-truck carrying 40,000 pounds of food went up in flames Wednesday on Interstate 80 after one of the tires blew-out.
The semi was heading eastbound on I-80 when the tire blew, but because the truck's driver did not realize what had happened, he kept on driving down the road.
A state trooper was able to track him down and get him pulled over at the Wood River interstate exit.
"I saw him and there was smoke and fire already coming from underneath
the truck. He apparently didn't see it. I don't know if that's because
the way his mirrors are, but just always be paying attention all around
you because if he could have pulled over soon we wouldn't have had this
happened," said Nebraska State Patrol trooper Wendy Brehm.
The driver was able to get out of the truck uninjured. He tried to use a fire extinguisher to put out the flames, but the truck was already too engulfed.
