A suspect has turned himself in to authorities for destroying dozens of gravestones at the historic Farmers Valley Cemetery in Hamilton County earlier this month.
Robert Kelly Jr., 18, went to the Hamilton County Jail Wednesday to turn himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
As of right now his is the only suspect in custody, but the investigation into the vandalism and destruction of more than 40 gravestones is ongoing.
Officials say 44 gravestones at Farmers Valley Cemetery were destroyed and toppled August 19. Repairs for the stones were estimated at upwards of $40,000.
The cemetery is the final resting place for many Hamilton County pioneers, including Civil War veterans and former Nebraska State Senator Perry Reed.
