Kearney businesses roll out the red carpet as a popular tradition for UNK's welcome week continues.
Hundreds of students stroll "The Bricks" Thursday night, as part of Destination Downtown, a welcome week activity for UNK's new and returning students.
It's the tenth year for the event. More than 30 businesses stayed open; giving students the opportunity to learn about the happenings of the business district.
School officials say it's a great way to showcase the partnership between the school and the city.
"I hope the students come away with an excitement for being not only at UNK, but part of the Kearney experience," said UNK's Chandra Duffer. "Being able to embrace what Kearney can do for them and how excited Kearney is to embrace the students."
Some events at Destination Downtown included a band, food eating competition and games for the students.
