CrossFit enthusiasts nationwide came together on Saturday to honor the 19 fire fighters who died in the brutal Arizona fire earlier this summer, and collect funds for their families.
"It's an opportunity to say thanks," said Jared Stockwell, co-owner of CrossFit Heartland and a Grand Island firefighter.
Mark Bales, a CrossFit member said, "CrossFit has always been like a family, they always support you."
The Prescott firefighters were known as "hotshots" -- trained to hike into the center of a fire and many were avid members of the CrossFit community in Arizona.
Bales said "I think these hero WODs are always nice, it gives you something to think about when you're working out."
The new hero "workout of the day" or what CrossFit athletes call WODs will go in the cross-fit books.
The workout is 30 squats, 19 power-cleans, 7 strict pull-ups and a 400 meter run -- six rounds of that.
Some of the numbers have a meaning and tell a story. The firefighters died on June 30th and the 19 power-cleans represent the 19 firefighters.
