BELLEVUE, Neb. (AP) — A Nebraska state senator from Bellevue says family reasons are behind his decision to resign.

Sen. Scott Price told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he'll be stepping down soon "to pursue opportunities in the private sector which are more supportive of my family and my goals."

He told the Omaha World-Herald that he'd probably be moving to Alabama, where his daughter recently gave birth to a little girl. Price and his wife, Jacqueline, have two other children as well.

Price is a Republican who was first elected in 2008 and re-elected in November to continue representing District 3.

Price's replacement in the state's unicameral Legislature will be named by Gov. Dave Heineman.
