After many months of local anticipation, Bed Bath and Beyond finally opened its doors earlier this week.
Revamping of the old mall has been a major project for the city's development team for over a year and a half now.
Officials say that though the store has taken longer to than expected, it's been a major development undertaking that's better to be done right, than done sloppy.
"What it really represents is the redevelopment of the properties there along [Highway] 281. That area assorted with the Grand Island development, we've seen a lot of redevelopment in that last year at the north and south end. And getting some of these new stores opened is really important to bring traffic into that new property."
Nabity expects growth to continue for that area of town, saying the 50,000 population mark is really when interest from larger retailers starts to come in.
