With the past few years bringing nothing but drought to communities in central Nebraska, many residents are excited to see the South Platte and Platte Rivers with some water in them. However, the amount of water coming down from the recent flood in Colorado is threatening flood conditions along those same rivers.
Officials are advising the public to prepare for flood conditions, keeping health and safety at the forefront.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has prepared a website,
http://flood.unl.edu with valuable flood recommendations and
information from UNL and other Extension services across the country.
The information is being updated continuously, aimed at helping homeowners and agricultural producers survive the floodwaters.
The website includes recommendations for wells and
septic tanks, as well as possible health hazards, property damage, tree
damage and saturated soil risk.
