The Better Business Bureau is warning Nebraskans to avoid falling for a "Get rich quick" investment scheme involving foreign currency.
Scammers promise an easy investment in foreign currency that will produce a high return with low risk.
Victims of this scam are often encouraged to purchase Iraqi dinar, Vietnamese dong or more recently, the Egyptian pound. Victims are told that when these governments revalue their currency, they can just cash in, making for an easy money-making venture.
While this may sound like a great investment, officials say it is difficult to sell back the currency and it is extremely unlikely that they will ever significantly increase in value.
Individuals who believe they may be a victim of foreign exchange fraud are encouraged to file a complaint with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission by calling 866.366.2382.
