Buffalo County Emergency Management says water levels on the Platte River are expected to reach flood stage in the Kearney area Wednesday morning.
By Thursday morning, the river is expected to rise to 6.9 feet.
One resident, who lives about 100 yards from the river, says he's feeling a bit nervous about the incoming water.
"It's very anxiety producing. We're hoping it's going to be minimized by all the efforts of central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District; we're keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for the best," said Alan Mais.
Mais says he will be checking the river every three hours just in case his family has to evacuate.
