Holdrege Police Searching for Water Tower Vandal

Posted: Updated:

Holdrege police are looking for the person or persons responsible for vandalizing the city's water tower.

Police say locks were cut and access was gained to the water tower sometime between 9 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday.

The word "underestimated" was written in black spray paint on the north side of the tower, and officials say they believe they know what the message means, but they will not say as the investigation is still ongoing.

Authorities have not yet determined how much it will cost to repair the damage.

Officials say the vandalism suspect or suspects will face charges of criminal mischief, breaking and entering and possible other charges as well.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Holdrege Police Department at (308) 995-4407 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-422-1494. An anonymous tip can also be left at the Nebraska Crimestoppers website. An award of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
