Officials Along Proposed Pipeline Route Receive Safety Briefing

National experts gathering in York Tuesday afternoon to speak about the safety of the Keystone XL pipeline.

The non–profit group "Nebraskans for Jobs and Energy Independence" is hosting a pipeline safety briefing with invitations extended to local elected officials, planning and zoning board members, emergency managers, first responders and others from counties along the planned pipeline route.

National experts to speak on the panel include:

  • Brigham McCown -- Former administrator of the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration
  • Andrew Black -- President and CEO of Association of Oil Pipelines
  • Michael Whatley -- Executive Vice President of the Consumer Energy Alliance
  • Dr. J. Berton Fisher -- board certified hydrologist and expert on matters related to organic and inorganic chemistry
