Grand Island city officials have announced dates for this year's fall open burn period.
Residents will be required to purchase a $10 burn permit to participate in the open burn period taking place from Oct. 13 through Oct. 26 during the hours between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Permits can be purchased during normal business hours on weekdays from now until Oct. 25 in the Fire Administration suite at Grand Island City Hall, 100 E. First St.
The burn period is for residents of private one and two family homes in Grand Island and is only meant for burning brush from the property and only in areas where no hazard is created by doing so.

Residents burning without a permit will be subject to a fine.
