Several central Nebraska cities have been awarded grant money from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development to be used on improving infrastructure throughout the community.
The cities participated in a needs assessment last year to find areas in the city that need improvement and where funds would benefit low- and middle-income residents in the targeted areas.
The city of Grand Island has been awarded $300,000 to make improvements to streets and sidewalks. The city will contribute $150,000 toward the project as well.
Hastings will receive $351,800 to improve streets and sidewalks. The city will contribute $168,400 for the work.
Kearney was awarded $349,300 for street and storm sewer updates. The city will contribute $162,150.
Other city's receiving grant money include Fremont, Norfolk and North Platte.
