A carousel in North Platte has been nationally recognized for its new century-old status.
The National Carousel Association recently honored the historic carousel that resides in Cody Park. The carousel is one of only two operational antique carousels in the state.
The Herschell-Spillman Carousel, built in 1913, has all wooden horses.
North Platte purchased the carousel in the 1950s and since then has received only minor renovations.
Cody Park supervisor Lyle Minshull says the carousel is valuable because of the link it provides to the past.
