Former Fairfield Clerk Pleads Not Guilty to Theft Charges

Posted: Updated:

A former town clerk of Fairfield, Neb. has pleaded not guilty to charges of stealing from the community.

Jennifer Basset entered her pleas in Clay County District Court on Wednesday where she is facing two counts of theft.

Records say Bassett used a credit card issued to the south-central Nebraska town in her name for personal items and services, in addition to overpaying herself and overcompensating herself for health insurance premiums.

A trial date has not yet been set.
