No Pink Shirts On Duty for G.I. Firefighters

Posted: Updated:

Grand Island firefighters can't wear their special pink shirts while on duty.

Firefighters created a pink breast cancer awareness shirt as part of Breast Cancer Awareness month in October.

The shirts cost $20-dollars each and the proceeds go to a mammogram fund to aid women who cannot afford to get one. The firefighters planned to wear them to raise awareness and money for the cause.

Grand Island Fire Chief Cory Schmidt said October is also fire prevention safety month and he believes it's important to have firefighters in their regular uniforms.

He said they'll be giving educational talks to area schoolchildren and the public and wanted them to be in uniform.
