Gothenburg Man Shot in Weekend Incident, Investigation Ongoing

Posted: Updated:

On Saturday night at around 10:30 p.m. the Dawson County Sheriff's Office received a call about a report of trespassing and shots fired in a rural area of Gothenburg.

An officer arrived at the scene and a woman at a nearby home told the officer that a man had been shot and was in a cornfield.

Authorities then found 47-year-old Patrick Hollis in the cornfield. The rural Gothenburg man had suffered a gunshot wound to his lower left side.

According to their investigation there were other male suspects involved in the incident that had also fled into the cornfield.

The Nebraska State Patrol Air Wing division assisted in a search for the men but none were found.

Hollis was taken to Gothenburg Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

The investigation is ongoing.
