Kansas Man Gets Jail Time, Fine for Fatal Accident Near Hastings

Posted: Updated:

A Kansas man has been sentenced to less than a year in jail for the death of a Wood River man in a crash that took place near Hastings last year.

Victor Allende, 47, of South Bend Township, Kan., was given 270 days in jail and fined $500 last week after pleading no contest to vehicular homicide.

Court records say Allende was heading eastbound on U.S. Highway 6 east of Hastings on April 24, 2012 and was following behind a truck too closely, slamming into the truck when it stopped at a train crossing.

The truck Allende ran into was pushed in the way of the pickup driven by 52-year-old Neal Sahling. Sahling, of Wood River, was killed in the incident.
