Nebraska Corn, Soybean Harvest Ahead of Schedule Despite Wet Conditions

Posted: Updated:

Nearly three-quarters of Nebraska's corn crop has been harvested, despite wet conditions that slowed some farmers down.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 71 percent of the state's corn was harvested by the end of last week.

That number has surpassed the yearly average of 66 percent harvested by that date, a come-back from earlier in this harvest season when farmers were behind the average by nearly 10 percentage points.

Meanwhile the soybean harvest is 97 percent complete, slightly ahead of the 93 percent average.

The USDA crop report also says the new winter wheat crop is 97 percent emerged, with 96 percent rated in good or excellent condition.

The question is now, will the rain and snow falling on most of Nebraska Tuesday cause farmers to fall behind once again?
