Officials in three southeast Nebraska counties are discussing the possibility of creating a regional jail.
Officials for Gage, Jefferson and Saline counties met earlier this month to hold preliminary talks and they say the meeting was productive.
One of the possible scenarios would have sentenced inmates and those awaiting trial who are unable to make bond housed at the Saline County facility. The other facilities would then be used to hold other inmates.
Jefferson County Commissioner Michael Dux says he thinks it's something worth looking into. Adding, "It seems to me Saline County has space."
