Hundreds Honor Life of Todd Elsbernd

Around 900 mourners paid their respects to Todd Elsbernd, a Grand Island attorney and school board member who died last week.

Services were held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. An overflow crowd turned out for the funeral mass.

Attorneys, business leaders, and school officials were among those attending the service. Law enforcement officers and judges were also in attendance, including all three Hall County District Court judges.

Elsbernd was remembered as a husband and father, and avid outdoorsman.

He was a longtime supporter and board member of Ducks Unlimited and taught hunters' safety education. In addition, he was active with Riverdogs youth baseball and was a band booster at Grand Island Senior High.

Elsbernd was a law partner at Bradley, Elsbernd, Andersen, Kneale and Mues Jankovitz. He also served on the Board of Education for Grand Island Public Schools.

Elsbernd died Wednesday, November 13 of a gunshot wound. Mike Petersen, a former legal client has been charged with Elsbernd's murder. Petersen is also accused of killing his ex-wife, Nancy Petersen.

A memorial scholarship fund will be established for Todd's three sons -- Lucas, Zebulen, and Joshua.
