The nationwide "Click It or Ticket"
campaign has wrapped up and Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) certainly
kept themselves busy.
They issued 235 citations and warnings
for seat belt violations and 29 child restraint citations and warnings during
the special enforcement designed to encourage seat belt usage.
The campaign covered the heavily
traveled Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
One fatality was reported over the holiday
weekend in Pawnee County. This compares with two fatalities recorded over the
Thanksgiving holiday in 2012.
A $20,000 grant from the Nebraska
Office of Highway Safety paid for some of the overtime Troopers and
Communication Specialists worked through the campaign.
The following statistics are a
reflection of statewide activity by the Nebraska Patrol during the "Click
It or Ticket" enforcement period November 24- December 1.
In addition to seat belt and child
restrain violations troopers also made 39 arrests for driving under the
influence and issued over 1,000 speeding citations.
35 open container citations were also
issued along with 56 for driving under suspension and 51 for no proof of
