The Nebraska State Penitentiary has been placed on lockdown after 33 inmates refused to return to their cells last night as part of a protest.
The Department of Corrections said the inmates were demonstrating against a year old policy that limits the number of inmates in the prison yard at one time. The policy was intended to reduce conflicts among inmates.
The Department reported there were no injuries or major damage incurred in the protest. Some small fires in trash cans had to be put out.
The Department is still investigating the incident. All inmates involved were secured Monday night.
