Lincoln – Flags are to be flown at half-staff in honor of the late Nelson Mandela.
Late Thursday night, the White House issued a Presidential Proclamation to fly flags at half-staff through sunset on Monday as "a mark of respect for the memory of Nelson Mandela."
Originally, flags were to be lowered Saturday for the annual National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. The day honors the American patriots who died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor.
Gov. Dave Heineman has issued a reminder to Nebraskans that flags at all state buildings and facilities are to be lowered to half-staff now through sunset on Monday, Dec. 9 to honor the life of Mandela as well. Nebraska residents are also encouraged to fly flags at half-staff.
