Nearly 100 Non-Profits Benefit From "Give Where You Live"

Posted: Updated:

Nearly 100 non–profits in Kearney and Buffalo County reaped nearly half a million dollars in donations from a 24 hour "giving" event.

From the "Skate Park for Kearney" to rural Buffalo County Community Organizations; big or small, Kearney's "Give Where You Live" event helped local groups.

The campaign raised $450,000, and organizers say it's sometimes hard to see how many organizations need assistance.

"This kind of event brings them all together under one roof and puts this on one tally board so you can really see who is being supported by the community," said KACF Assistant Director Julie Stepanek. "And who maybe needs more support from the community."

Kearney's S.A.F.E. Center is one of those non–profits that benefited from the generosity, and is grateful for the support.

"I believe that the community sees that domestic violence and sexual assault is an issue," said Executive Director Nikki Gausman. "And that we have to opportunity to make a difference with those funds right here in Kearney."

Organizers said they hope to make "Give Where You Live" an annual event.
