A California man was taken to the Phelps County Jail Sunday after officials said he fled from a trooper attempting to perform a traffic stop.
A trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol attempted to pull over 33-year-old Phillip Bruyette, of Vista, Calif., around 12:20 a.m. Sunday for failing to stop at a stop sign a few miles south of Elm Creek.
According to officials, Bruyette then led the trooper on a chase across rural roads until taking off on foot into a field. The pursuit lasted about four minutes.
The trooper was able to take Bruyette into custody without incident once on foot.
He was taken to the Phelps County Jail on charges of driving under suspension, willful reckless driving, failure to stop at a stop sign, and the felony charge of fleeing to avoid arrest.
