About 27 million people are currently enslaved worldwide and around 300,000 face this reality each year here in the United States, according to the U.S. Justice Department.
A UNK class has taken a stand against human trafficking and is raising awareness with a strange kind of donation -- bras.
The students wanted to come up with a way to not only help the cause, but also teach others about it and spark their interest. They teamed up with "Free The Girls", a non–profit organization, to have a bra drive.
The project started last month as the class set up donation bins around the community and even reached out to towns outside the city. The gently used bras collected will be sold to help victims of sex slavery.
The group has received plenty of community support and has surpassed their goal to collect 1,000 bras. They are accepting donations through Friday, Dec. 13 and plan to send the bras to Mozambique, a Republic along the coast of Africa.
