Cursive Could Leave Kansas Classrooms

Posted: Updated:

Cursive could soon be leaving classrooms in Kansas.

The Kansas Board of Education will meet Tuesday to discuss a new standard that would only encourage schools to teach fifth and sixth graders to write legibly in cursive.

The move to release it as a requirement comes as some educators question whether the skill is necessary.

Currently, Kansas is among a handful of states that include cursive in their academic standards.

The Board also plans to review proposed standards for theater programs.
