The city of Kearney has selected a new fire administrator to lead the fire department.
City Manager Michael Morgan announced that Jason Whalen took over the position on Nov. 25.
Whalen has served as the city's fire engineer since April 2005 and has been a member of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department since 2000.
Whalen also serves as a firefighter and assistant chief for the Nebraska Air Force National Guard.
A graduate from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Whalen is also certified as an emergency medical technician, rescue technician, firefighter, fire officer, fire inspector and fire instructor. He has also received accreditation in airport rescue fire fighting and hazardous materials.
