Thanks to the large number of people heading to their local convenience stores hoping today is their lucky day, the Mega Millions lottery jackpot has soared to $425 million.
The drawing will take place Friday night, and if someone hears all of their numbers called, they would have the option to take home $228 million in cash, before taxes.
If someone has the winning numbers for the Dec. 13 drawing, it would be the second largest jackpot in the history of Mega Millions, which began in March 2010 in Nebraska.
New York state, tickets are selling at a pace of $500,000 an hour
Friday morning. The state's lottery spokeswoman, Christy Calicchia says
sales are normally between $60,000 and $70,000 an hour.
The winning ticket must match the six numbers drawn. About 32 percent of the possible combinations of numbers have been sold.
The winning numbers are announced every Tuesday and Friday at 10 p.m. and can be found at the Nebraska Lottery website.
