Safety on the roads is a shared responsibility, and it's one the Nebraska State Patrol is putting extra emphasis on this holiday season.
From December 13th until January 1st, drivers can expect to see more State Patrol cars on rural roads and highways, as part of the "You Drink and Drive, You Lose" campaign.
The Nebraska State Patrol is taking part in a nationwide effort to raise awareness of the dangers of impaired driving.
The campaign is designed to remove impaired drivers from roadways and to remind drivers to never get behind the wheel after drinking.
"There's a spike in traffic, more people are traveling and we want to make sure folks get from where they're going and back home safe. And it's a chance for us to get extra troopers out on the road to deal with the traffic flow and to make sure people are doing what they need to be doing in a safe manner," explained Traffic Service Lt. Jeff Pelowski.
Special enforcement efforts include high visibility patrols, DWI checkpoints and other efforts with a special focus on time periods when alcohol related activities are the high.
