This week we honor a WWII veteran who is celebrated his 95th birthday on Sunday, Deward D. McIntosh.
Deward joined the U.S. Army in November of 1941 and served until 1945 as a member of the 601st anti-aircraft artillery.
Deward served across Europe in places like England and France. Two of his brothers were also in the army at the same time and Deward said they had it rougher and considers himself lucky. The three of them all made it home safe.
After his time in the army Deward returned home and farmed in the Palmer area for over 50 years. He also worked as an orderly in the VA Hospital for over 20 years before retiring in 1980.
He married Helen Gdowski in 1948 and together they raised 6 children, four sons and two daughters. Deward now lives in the Tiffany resting home in Grand Island.
Deward thank you for your service to our country and happy 95th birthday.
