Gas prices in Nebraska continue to see slight declines as the Christmas travel period approaches.
According to GasBuddy, over the past week, average retail gas prices fell just over 3 cents per gallon to $2.97.
Prices on Sunday were about 22 cents per gallon lower in Nebraska than this time last year, and were nearly 7 cents per gallon lower than one month ago.
National gas prices have seen similar declines in the past few weeks. The national average for a gallon of gas has fallen to $3.21.
GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan says he thinks the downward trend will continue, even past Christmas.
"Historically, this is about the time of year that gasoline prices hit
their yearly lows, but this time around, I have more optimism that prices may
move even lower in the next few weeks," DeHaan shared. "As we finish our 2014 forecast at
GasBuddy in the near future, we can say that 2014 does offer some relief
compared to what we'll end up seeing in terms of average in 2013, but for the
time being, the next week looks to see a continued drop in gasoline
