Ohio Couple Killed in Fiery Semi Crash on Interstate Near Lincoln

Posted: Updated:

Authorities are investigating the cause of a fiery crash that killed a husband-wife truck driving team and blocked traffic on Interstate 80 near Lincoln for nearly two hours.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, the crash occurred around noon Wednesday. They believe the semi-truck was heading eastbound on I-80 when it struck a guardrail, went down an embankment and ended up on the westbound West O Street onramp.

The truck caught fire and emitted significant smoke.

The patrol says the man and women killed in the accident were from Ohio. Their identities weren't immediately released Wednesday afternoon.

The westbound lanes of I-80 were closed for about an hour due to smoke. The eastbound lanes of the interstate didn't reopen until about 1:45 p.m.

The Northwest 48th Street exit will likely remain closed all day Wednesday while the wreckage is cleaned up.
