Buffalo County Officials Believe Man Died After Being Struck by Rolling Semi

Officials in Buffalo County are investigating the death of a semitruck driver involved in an accident around the intersection of Highway 30 and Cottonmill Ave near Kearney.

According the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office, the accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Officials say the preliminary investigation indicates that the 54-year-old rural Kearney man died after the parked truck he was working on rolled, striking his body. Officials are not yet releasing his name.

According to authorities, the driver pulled onto Cottonmill Avenue off of Highway 30 and was stopped partially on the shoulder. While he was working on the semi, the truck rolled backward across the highway and into the ditch south of the intersection.

The driver was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he died of his injuries. An autopsy has been requested.

Several agencies aided in the investigation including Kearney Police Department, Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Paramedics of Good Samaritan Health Systems, and Buffalo County Attorney's Office.
