Cop On Top Braves Elements For Special Olympians

Posted: Updated:

A Kearney Police officer braves the elements, all to make a difference for Nebraskans headed to the Special Olympics.

KPD's Seth Van Horn is spending 48 hours on top of Walmart this weekend, raising money for travel expenses and uniforms for Special Olympians.

He says it's an adrenaline rush being up there. It's not comfortable, but he really believes in what he's doing.

"I hope I gain, you get pride doing it, number one, and it keeps you wanting to do it every year after that," said Van Horn. "I hope the people down there gain spending 48 hours in the cold doing something for somebody else is better than trying to do everything for yourself."

Officer Van Horn will be on top of Walmart until December 22 at noon, and hopes to raise five- to six-thousand dollars.

REPORTER'S NOTES: This is Van Horn's third year up on the Walmart roof and if he raises $6,000 this year, his grand total for all three years will be $25,000 raised for the Special Olympics.
