Unexplained Link Between Christmas and Death, One Theory

Posted: Updated:

There are a few well-known risk factors for death - like high cholesterol and smoking - but does Christmas come to mind?

Several studies show you have a greater chance of dying on Christmas, the day after Christmas or New Year's Day than any other single day of the year.

According to the Centers for Disease Control this phenomenon holds true for people who die of natural causes and for those who die of the five most common diseases, including cancer.

Scientists still can't explain the unfavorable odds but one popular theory is that people delay getting the care they need to spend time with their families.
