Woman Critical After Explosion in Kearney

Posted: Updated:

A woman is in critical condition, after an explosion inside a car on New Year's Eve in Kearney.

The Kearney Police Department issued a statement on Facebook. They said officers and medical personnel were called out to the 800 block of Avenue C, on the south side of the city around 5:30 p.m.

Authorities said a victim had been burned in some type of explosion or fire in a red Ford Taurus, with Kansas license plate 206FUF. Apparently the car left the scene, because police are asking for the public's help in locating it.

Police say the victim was a 26-year-old woman. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, where there is a burn unit.

Police said the woman was in critical but stable condition.

Anyone with any information about the incident or location of the vehicle is asked to the call the Kearney Police Department at 308-237-2104.
