Grand Island's Central Nebraska Regional Airport had
a record breaking year in 2013.
The Hall County Airport Authority said nearly
57,000 passengers board flights last year, beating out the previous
record by over 800 passengers.
Additionally, the all time monthly boarding record was set
in December, with over 6,000 passengers. That's more than 100 passengers over the previous record.
Because of that growth, the airport is also planning to build a new terminal. A meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday unveiling of the renderings for the project.
Another Nebraska airport saw a similar boost in passengers in 2013. The Lincoln Airport saw a 5 percent increase in passengers flying in and out in 2013.
The Lincoln Airport
Authority announced Monday that United, Delta and their partner airlines
carried 283,690 travelers through the airport in 2013, nearly
14,000 more than in 2012.
December was a big month for Lincoln's airport as well. A 9 percent increase in passengers was reported over December 2012.
Wood, the airport's executive director, says he expects new flights
planned by Delta between Lincoln and Atlanta will lead to continued
increases in passenger counts.
